“Let me tell you something. I came here to win a trophy. And on the face of it Ted Ray or I should carry it off. Not for you, not for England, but for sheer bloody pride at being the best, *that’s* why we do this. And if Mr. Ouimet wins tomorrow, it’s because he’s the best, because of who he is. Not who his father was, not how much money he’s got, because of who he bloody is! And I’ll thank you to remember that. And I’ll thank you to show the respect a gentleman gives as a matter of course.”
Harry Vardon from the movie The Greatest Game Ever Played
The greatest Game Ever Played is another true to life story of a boy who dreamed of being famous and followed his idol’s footsteps in golf. Shia LaBeouf played Francis Ouiment is from a poor family. And against his father’s wishes he followed his dream of playing golf with his idol Harry Vardon. His father was against him playing golf; he said that what good it would do if you can’t gain money with it. Ouiment was entered the tournament as an amateur so he won’t get anything even if he wins the title. Even with his father’s blessing he still joined the tournament. Many had criticized his abilities for he was really young back then only 20 and with no name in the golf community. But was able to prove them all wrong he won the cup beating his idol at the end. After the match he was able to prove to the world he was the best! And he eventually got his father to understand why he’s doing it.
The character went a lot of hardship in order to reach his goal of being the best. That’s also similar in life. We must face all this demons that would tell us other wise. All we have to do is be strong and never let them get to you. Stay focus on your goal and you’ll be victorious in the end! And all those people who doubted you will magically disappear. Just like what the quote said it doesn’t rely on where you came from, it’s all about who you are! So don’t ever forget that all you need to succeed is yourself and you determination to be the best.
